This human existence is about the experiences that we participate in…our ability to feel the love, joy, fear and loss that we are a part of…and incorporate the variance into each journey of expression.
My work takes shape in thoughts, ideas, and materials, with my expression stretching out along an aesthetic that explores those themes of faith, courage, joy, pleasure – true to life, the journey sometimes goes off course- yet always finding it’s way home.
In using the ancient medium of encaustic, I am able to create luscious abstract paintings that express this aesthetic. Combining rich color fields in conjunction with an elegant layering of line and pattern, I work to create a developed depth of interest in each painting. It is in these nuances that life experiences are revealed.
I was born and raised in the Bay Area of Northern California. I studied fine art photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. Prior to becoming a full-time studio artist, I operated my commercial photography studio for 7 years in San Francisco, CA.
As a full-time artist I teach, lecture, and show my work in the US and abroad. I am a founding board member of International Encaustic Artists (IEA), and served as the creator and director of the first three annual retreat & conferences in Carmel Valley, CA. My teaching methods are featured in two instructional DVDs as well as several publications.
